2002
YEAR IN REVIEW
And
what a productive year it was. The Howard County Antique Farm
Machinery Club is proud of the activities we sponsor and we are
well on our way to meeting the goals of our mission. As the
year comes to an end and the new year begins here is a look back
at the activities we enjoyed together:
APRIL
13th - THE 7th ANNUAL CONSIGNMENT SALE
This
consignment sale was our best yet! Just look at all of the
good junk in the pictures below.

JULY
6th - THE ANNUAL CUTTING OF THE WHEAT
This
year the cutting of the wheat took place on the Howard Streaker
Farm. The wheat was cut and shocked with a team of mules then
stacked on the wagon by hand. It was a beautiful day and a good
time was had by all.

AUGUST
3rd - 10th - THE 57th ANNUAL HOWARD COUNTY FAIR
What
a HOT week !!!! While attendance was down for
the fair the Club still had a great time showing their machinery,
threshing, baling, taking equipment through the parade (except
Jen, but we won't go there), and talking to everyone that would
listen.

SEPTEMBER
22nd - THE CLUB APPRECIATION PICNIC
As
in years past, the Sunday before the annual show has been spent
putting the final touches on the grounds and coming together for
food and fun. All family members and friends are always welcome
to attend everyone enjoys watching the !*%$@#*!^ Army tents go up.
SEPTEMBER
24th - 27th - THE FARM HERITAGE SCHOOL DAYS
As
the second graders from all over the county file off their school
busses, the club members jump into action. The children watch
wide-eyed, even as the rain pours down, as the ways of farm life
are detailed. The following pictures show the butter making
station and the fodder chopping station.

SEPTEMBER
28th & 29th - THE 7th ANNUAL FARM HERITAGE DAYS
What
a spectacular weekend!. Approximately 6,000 people enjoyed
some time on the farm. Two small children from Laurel and Fulton
are thrilled at the new toys they won. And when it was all
over, when all of the work was completed and everything was put
away, we all breathed a little sigh if relief that all our hard
work paid off for another year.
OCTOBER
26th - FALL FIELD TRIP: THE
BALTIMORE MUSEUM OF INDUSTRY
On
Saturday, October 26, 2002, the Club traveled to the Museum of Industry
in Baltimore. The highlight of the trip was seeing the White &
Middleton gas engine running in the belt-driven machine shop. One
of our members, Dr. Martin Middleton, requested that the engine
be running for our group to see. This engine was built by Arthur
Middleton to be used in submarines.
This
museum is very interesting for anyone who gets the chance to see
it. We were able to see the Print Shop and watch one of the printing
machines work. Other exhibits were the Bunting Pharmacy, a grocery
store, bakery, cannery, garment loft and the Maryland Milestone
Wall which featured first in Industry in Maryland, including information
on the B & O Railroad, silversmiths, umbrellas and sports gear.
